Traditionally, Thyme leaf (Thymus vulgaris) is used in Herbal Medicine as an expectorant to help thin mucus & relieve the symptoms of bronchitis and mucus build-up of the upper respiratory tract (anti-catarrh). Thyme is of excellent benefit for coughs and wheezing in children and adults. Thyme also offers strong anti-bacterial, anti inflammatory & anti- microbial support.

Thyme has long been known for its antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiseptic activities, in addition to remarkable disruption of microbial biofilms.

The antiseptic qualities of thyme as an aromatic and medicinal plant have been recognized since antiquity, and it has been used to treat malaria since the sixteenth century. The British Herbal Pharmacopoeia classifies thyme as a medicinal plant, and among the indications for its use, it mentions bronchitis, bronchial catarrh, whooping cough, and sore throat.

Thyme is rich in plant phenols such as thymol and carvacrol which are powerfully anti-spasmodic, making them potent cough suppressants. The antibacterial and expectorant qualities of this herb thin the mucus that the cough is trying to expel, whilst gently healing and soothing the bronchial tract. As a result of the overwhelming research, Thyme is approved by Germany's "Commission E" in the treatment of bronchitis, whooping cough and upper respiratory inflammation.
